v e schwab continues to write to my very heart and soul. I savoured every single word & page of this. the world completely slipped away while reading it. I genuinely do not know how to do the absolute brilliance of this book any justice, I don’t have the words??

THESE CHARACTERS?! phenomenal. I want to be best friends with Sabine (questionable I know), listen to charlotte’s stories & give alice a big hug. matteo, allessandro, renata, hector, ezra, giada, catty, antonia, jack.. I adore them all

sabine….probably the most mesmerising & iconic character I’ve ever read about. she was so strong-willed, determined, intelligent, witty with such strong femininity and she used that as a weapon.. she knew what she wanted from the start & didn’t let anyone stop her from getting it. the transition of her becoming a much darker, wilted version of herself was soo eerie and unexpected. I could FEEL the dread coming off the pages for charlotte while on the run. although I probably shouldn’t be.. i was still so obsessed with sabine by the end!!

‘𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛𝙛. 𝙃𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧. 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙. 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮.’

hunger is such a strong, central message throughout the story and the way v e schwab wrote 3 totally different characters each with different perspectives of hunger & what individuals will do to satiate it was so clever.

alice lives in her head and her hunger is driven by wanting to lock all her anxieties and insecurities away and be a “new alice”. charlotte lives in her heart & sabine is hungry for more out of life. these three characters & their differing things that they long for then morph & interlink to one central, shared hunger amongst them. blood.

I was so satisfied for alice in the end, vengeance is SWEET. I loved her so much & really connected to her on such a deep level. I saw myself in her a lot & her tendencies / way of thinking. protect her at all costs <3

‘𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡. 𝙎𝙖𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙙, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙨, 𝙣𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨; 𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙙.’

a book with a central theme of vampires is always exciting but I became obsessed on a whole other level after seeing the story unfold, that it is SO much more than just a story about vampires, which I anticipated anyway because hello… v e schwab is anything but surface level when it comes to their writing!! I am obsessed with the concept that they took the typical attributes of a vampire like hunger & thirst for the surface of the book, but made the importance of the story far more complex.

The hunger for love (romantic & familial), opportunities, freedom, experiences & to LIVE is what drives these characters.

‘𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙮 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙤 𝙖𝙗𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚.’ ...more "
