In my opinion “Holes” By Louis Sachar was an excellent book. The genre of this book Is adventure because of it tells the story of kids go to a summer camp then being forced to work. The story was about a kid getting in trouble for something he didn’t do. He was accused of stealing shoes that didn’t belong to him. Because of this he had two options juvey or “summer camp. Stanley chose to go to “summer camp” which led to all the abuse and torment the camp “counselors” did to them. They made them work for a treasure that had been lost for years that would make the head “counselor” wealthy. The head counselor worked to find the treasure that her grandfather told her to look for, so she had to carry on her grandpa legacy of searching for the treasure.
While reading it I really thought about the predicaments the kids that were trapped there were in and what I would do in those predicaments and see if I could survive all the digging, food, and the abuse the “camp counselors” committed on the children there. One of the predicaments that I really thought about was when Zero and Stanley ran away from the camp and about died from starvation and dehydration but miraculously survived by finding a water hole and the peaches in the jar that were old but gave them sort of nutrition to survive.
A part of this story that made me really love this book was the characters. My favorite character was probably Zero a quiet mysterious kid who usually finishes his hole first in the morning the only person he eventually talks to is Stanley. Stanley felt bad for Zero so decided to get on his good side by helping him and defending him from the “Counselors” who tried to punish him but when he ran away Stanley followed to make sure he didn’t die in the desert.
“SPOILER ALERT”
One thing I did not like was when Zero and Stanley are about to die and Stanley trying to keep zero alive the suddenly found a water source with onions for nutrition. I did not like this part because it came out of nowhere and was a miracle, they survived then returned back to make sure the “counselors” got arrested and punished for what they did and, in the time, found the treasure which ended up being jewels, deeds, and stocks that made them wealthy.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters, and I would recommend this book to other people and would give it 4/5 stars. ...more "
