the story unfolds in such a way that was so mesmerizing. i was so immersed in the world and its magic system. it never felt too complicated, but still felt unique. the story just flowed so well and captured my attention the whole time. the atmosphere was, for a lack of a better word, divine.

there were so many themes this touches upon. power, femininity, religion, honor, and so much more. it was so thought provoking and i love that in a fantasy book. i don’t like when it feels shallow or one note. this had all i could ever want in a fantasy romance novel.

the characters were utter perfection. every single one was was written with intention and fit the story so perfectly.

huge shout out to that damn gargoyle!!! wittiest and cutest damn thing. he was needed in this story. he made it that much better.

the romance. ohhhhh the romance. i don’t think a better romance has been written. truly. sybil and rory’s love story felt like magic. as silly as it sounds, it’s true. their banter was literally like a drug to me. i felt drunk off it. it was heart wrenchingly good. the development was slow, but not too slow. a natural progression that had me frothing at the mouth. it was unreal how good it was.

rory myndacious. that right there is my ideal fictional male character. the way he was described had me on my knees!! his devotion to sybil??? his unknightly and ignoble ways?? oh my god, i adored him and their relationship so much.

sybil is such a strong character. i loved her bravery and devotion to those she cares about. the journey she went on was full of self-discovery and i think her development was a thing of beauty.

i expected a cliffhanger ending and this had me on the edge of my seat. i will borderline be stalking rachel for news of the final book to be released. the start of this duology is already so special to me and i can’t wait to see where it goes from here. ...more "
