Before refrigerators, ice was chopped, transported Let me give you an example of how hollow capitalism mentality is, and what this book is trying to describe over and over. Chapters with hundreds of pages that can be summarized in maximum 10-20 pages:

Before refrigerators, ice was chopped, transported and supplied from frozen lands. From the Tudor family of Boston, there was Frederic Tudor named "Ice King" because he built a global natural-ice empire in the 19th century. With all his financial empire, surrounded by ass-kissing financial counselors, he couldn't be advised from anyone of its inner circle to use at least 1% from his monopoly, to research and develop or to be prepared for alternatives, ONE PERCENT!
When another guy frustrated by Tudor's method of business, decided to spend time to invent an alternative that culminated with a finished product, the refrigerator, Tudor's empire simply collapsed.
Wanna bet that if we study closely Tudor's business administration, we learn that he advocated for deregulation and other forms of labor constrains? For that, for local corruption and political lobbying, HE HAD MONEY!
This is how these guys work, they are not named for nothing "vultures". Imagine a guy that is able to see many color, learn them, reproduce them and calculate the quantity of certain color that can be used in a paint, but that guy has no in-depth, no painter softness. He doesn't need or want to understand that combining certain colors, it can obtain an efficiency for the finished painting product. He just sees quantities and percentage of quantities that can be used. He has a financial formula of using brute colors for a finished product that works, and he will sell that paint over and over until it will make you vomit just thinking about it.

If you take Dante Alighieri, give him a bachelor degree in finance and history, then lobotomize half of his brain, it would sprout a more reliable human being that could create, administrate and maintain an industry sector, with a better understanding of human psychology, suffering and contrary to the most egomaniacal economist out there, that version of Dante Alighieri would generate a more efficient capital!

That is how early capitalism can be summarized. Modern capitalism, not this semi-mutated late stage animalistic capitalism which we have nowadays, I am thinking about the one during mid 2000's till 2017-2019, it had regulations and laws. It didn't flood a market for the sake of having the most influence and monopoly, it had some quality in its service/product. It was nuanced. It worked, it gave time for researching and hobbies. It protected the laborer and the capital. As a scientist/engineer/constructor/baker, it was a pleasure of inventing building blocks, a foundation so stable that sprouted many sectors, financial boom and development. Modern capitalism was stable.

Do I recommend this book?
Nope, nope, nope. There are far more superior books. Two and a half stars are far more generous than its actual teaching value.

Also Karl Marx in this book never advocated for a better social system, for socialism. Personally me, I only read a man's words which are simply observing notes, of how did the world worked back then, going back in history and comparing different forms of governments, culminating with ugly monarchic times. It is simple a grotesque observation of an non-existent social system. No laws or regulations, no protection, just a concealed slavery hidden behind an impotent social form of government.

"The modern civilization, was born on the backbone of slavery."

F*** off to anyone believing this narrow mindset. It's like drinking piss your whole life, and then at the end of your life someone gives you white wine, because that person needs to trick your stubbornness and match the color of piss and wine. Instead of acknowledging of what you missed your entire life and because you were molded by an immense ego which when stripped down the only trait that is left is pride, you double down on your sorrows and regrets and proudly say: "Hmm, this piss seems to taste better".

The only good thing that this book teaches you is, yes, Hell exists here on earth, and it culminated the 19 and early 20 century and it plays whack-a-mole with countries, communities, and respectively individuals. ...more "
