Divergent is a book about a society split into 4 factions which each value different things, Amity values peaceful, Erudite values intelligence, Dauntless - Braveness, Abnegation- Selflessness, and Candor values honesty. Children grow up in whichever faction their parents belong to, but when they turn 16, they do an aptitude test to show them which faction they belong in and the next day is the Choosing Ceremony, it is where they will choose the path for the rest of their lives. The protagonist in the book is Beatrice Prior who was born into abnegation with her brother Caleb and her mum and dad. Beatrice knows that she doesn’t fit in Abnegation like the rest of her family and so she makes the wise decision to leave her family and join Dauntless. To become dauntless she has to do a initiation simulation that not everyone will pass. She learns to keep her secret because she had been warned that it may mean death. She ends up passing the test but important people find out she's divergent, and they try to kill her. She loses her mum and dad who suffer to save her...
Things I liked about the book- The book is very interesting and once you start reading its hard to put down. Beatrice is a character that people can relate too because she feels as though she can't fit in.
Things I disliked about the book- I really enjoyed this book but for other people it could be a bit violent for some younger ages and people may not like it because it includes fiction, action, and a little bit of romance.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I would love to read the other divergent books and also read more books written by Veronica Roth....more
