I very much enjoyed the references to the classics. Like the classic horror movies I grew up with & are widely popular that we all know. Like: Scream, Friday the 13th at Camp Crystal Lake, Nightmare On Elm Street, & the Halloween movie series. All of these Final girls are from the 80-90s which I also liked knowing it was from a classic era in time. Bringing them back to the 2020s & them no longer teenagers; but middle aged women.

All of them are healing or still trying to heal in their own way. Until, there is a new Final Girl who survived the same place as the OG Final girl who started it all. It had you thinking you somewhat knew who this mysterious new slasher was until the very end. You didn't know any different until our FMC found out in that moment (well that's just my personal opinion. I might have missed a hint).

The Characters:
When it comes to the support group & their final girls, each one represents the classic cliche of a slasher film. You know how every horror/slasher movie had a jock, nerd, slut, stoner, weirdo, & of course the final girl (I don't think I missed one, right?🤔). Which is something you slowly start to realize when you get maybe 10% in the book. Grady Hendrix did a great job on bringing these characters to life. All of them stand in their own personality with that specific trait. All of them have their own background story. None of them were just plain or just thrown in character. Which honestly was like that too with Dr. Carol, the reporter, & the cop Lynette had history with.

My overall rating:
Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Final thought on book & author:
After reading this novel, I feel like I have a better understanding of what a final girl truly is. To go through the experience of the before & after & see how the character develops & changes was interesting. I also, have now become a fan of Grady Hendrix's writing style. Therefore, I will be looking into more of his written work. Especially, for my summerween/slasher summer reading. ...more "

Tabitha’s Notes & Highlights

Out of this World by Ari Wright

3 notes & 8 highlights

The older I get, the more bitterness seems like a fitting lifestyle choice. I may only be twenty-eight, but I’ve seen enough to know where I stand in the grand scheme of things.
