First off, I have such a deep love for all the characters in this book. They are all so unique and special. I loved that Cassandra put more scenes in for all of the supporting characters like Ty, Christina, Mark, Kieran, Kit, Livvy, and Dru. Whenever it would switch scenes to any of the other characters that weren’t Julian and Emma, I was still happy with that. She writes each scene between the characters so delicately. I could tell just how much effort and time went into dissecting each character and the dialogue that was written.

One of my favorite characters of the entire shadowhunters universe is Mark Blackthorn. I genuinely love his character so much. At the end of City of heavenly fire, he was kidnapped by the fairies and was struggling to live with them for the past five years. I love how amazing his character development is. He went from being so incredibly scared and uncomfortable to being the brother they all missed and needed. But this is still a development. I love his and Christina’s relationship, and how he had mentioned that she was the only one that didn’t know him before he’d gotten taken so she wouldn’t have any expectations of him. What I love that Cassandra does is she writes him broken and confused, but also carefree, loving, funny, and beginning to be the best brother who will be there for his family.

Julian and Emma. SO BEAUTIFUL. I’m such a fan of forbidden love, forced proximity, YEARNING, passion. She wrote them so beautifully. They’re beginning to become my favorite couple in the shadowhunters universe. They would burn the world down for each other and I’m here for it 😭 I love Emma, she’s such a great lead character. She’s so strong and passionate, but also broken. Julian is the definition of a yearning king and I love how much Julian loves and cares for his family. Also, are there any Julian’s in real life???

Overall, such a great sequel. I’m excited to read the next book, but at the same time I don’t want it to be over 😭 ...more "
