Yes, this book is in general better compared to the first. However, I do feel that it only really was interesting in the first half and the last 10 chapters. All the mate stuff between Feyre and Rhysand felt as filler and as a plot device. Maybe I feel this way because I am just not a huge fan of romance being used as a plot device in general, or I just misinterpreted that part of SJM's worldbuilding.
The only thing that really bothered me, were the action sequences that take place in the last quarter of the book. They felt messy and unclear to me, I noticed that I would have to reread a page or paragraph to fully understand what was going on during the fights.
This book overall felt like SJM had a deadline or max word/page count while writing it. The first ¾ of the book feel fleshed out and flow nicely on their own and their respective parts of the story. The last ¼ feels slightly rushed but also slow somehow at the same time? With SJM being like "oh shit I have to make this all tie together before I reach the 70 chapter mark." I think the ending would've been nicer if it was extened 5/6 more chapters to flesh the scene out more further and to go deeper into the character of the king of Hybern....more
