"I'm really liking this! It starts off with the Courtesans section which is really interesting but the story they chose to put first was a good choice! There's nothing as funny as Edo Japan's sass. Especially when at one point the courtesan was talking about her sister and saying, "at thirty [she] still dressed up like a spring chicken (49)." It's too good xD" — Mar 21, 2015 11:32PM

“Though being involved with other people in a subculture interest group has many positive elements - shared interests, a feeling of sisterhood, and celebration of beauty - it can also lead to issues such as competition, misunderstanding, and ignorance. With disenchantment comes the feeling that the promise of happiness is being challenged and ultimately broken.”

“It would evidently take more than a political regime, more than dire poverty to stop a woman from wanting to be well-dressed: it was a desire as old as the world, as old as the desire for children.”
