BUT that being said, her characters, although semi-relatable (because of what and how they feel), don't feel fully flushed out. I wanted more from Clementine than the girl who was grieving and brute forcing it through. I wanted more from Iwan, than the chef who also was grieving and brute forcing it through. I think there was a nice backbone, a skeleton of sorts, for who the characters were but they were nothing more than that. Maybe it's just me but this feeds into also some of the plot points not feeling fully resolved? Like what's the deal with Vera!! Can we get more info please!!!

3) this goes with the bullet above but sans the spoiler, I think she was trying to fit too many themes into one book. Most of the more successful romance books I've read also weave in real-world themes and troubles people face while balancing the allure of love and romance. We can see that she tries to do this through her covering of the aforementioned sensitive topic (above), grief, meeting the right person at the wrong time, and etc, but ultimately, by trying to fit all of these themes in a relatively short book that also includes some magical realism, it's difficult to fully appreciate these themes. I know that slightly analyzing and critiquing a book that is feel-good is a little silly, but this is what I choose to do with my free time so yeah (sorry!)

I did like this book and would recommend it. Sometimes I think our subconscious knows what books you need in specific moments of your life and this is one of them, this is a book that could be a comfort book, even though it's heart wrenchingly sad (but a good sad?) at so many points. I really like where Ashley Poston is going with her work and I'm excited to read more!
