First of all, I know we waited two years for this book and overall I did really, really enjoy it!! However I do have a few complaints and reasons as to why it wasn’t a five star read for me. With as few spoilers as possible of course!!

I honestly felt a little let down by the resolution. This story had such a big build up and I was really expecting to have my mind blown and it just wasn’t. I felt underwhelmed by the resolution.

I also was really disappointed in the reunion of Bryce and her mate and brother (and Baxian ofc) after they were tortured in the dark for days on end. Seriously, Bryce was on a whole other planet and her brother and mate were being tortured, horribly, in a dark basement, for days…. And they regroup and everyone is just good?? Back to cracking jokes like it’s no big deal? No real deep emotions and none of the three guys had any lasting trauma from that? I just was really surprised that this wasn’t a more emotionally charged scene or anything that was brought up again later in the book at all.

I also felt that the deaths of the autumn king and morven were underwhelming. I just expected more from the scene.

Some things mentioned had no real resolution??? Sigrid? Did we just forget about her???

I was a little disappointed to not see much love and a deep connection between Bryce and hunt in this book. I felt the same about Lidia and Ruhn, Sarah keeps saying they’re mates and telling us they love each other so much. I feel like we were robbed on Ruhn and lidia’s love story because she didn’t really show it in this book. I just felt underwhelmed, Bryce and hunt kept fighting about petty stuff or Bryce was being kind of insensitive. I’m just a big fan of being shown rather than told and I didn’t see it as much in this book. However, I loved getting to see more of Lidia and learning her back story. Getting to hear her story brought a lot of humanity to the character and I really enjoyed it!!

I also really enjoyed the Easter eggs from other series! And getting to see some familiar faces was amazing. Nesta is THAT GIRL, and I cannot wait to see what she does in the next acotar book as she tries to learn more about the 8 pointed star. I loved getting to experience her from a strangers pov. That being said, I don’t feel like it was necessary (aside from Nesta’s star tattoo) and it kind of broke the book up awkwardly and didn’t really flow in my opinion. Did I enjoy seeing them?? Oh 1000%, did it really make sense when Bryce could’ve got this same info from Hel?? Nope.

I also enjoyed learning more about Parthos and Jesiba! I had so many theories about this so!

I really enjoyed learning more of the history of Midgard and hearing Theia’s story and I think that the way Bryce had to get the information really helped to make the story. However, even with all of that backstory and information being so interesting, the final resolution was, again my opinion, underwhelming. I enjoyed the book and I really love this series and characters and getting so many povs added so much to the reading experience and it was nice to see everything come together. But it wasn’t my favorite book of hers, not even close. ...more "
