What a strange and interesting book this is! Ishmael is one of the most peculiar narrators I’ve ever read in a novel. Certainly a self-insert for Melville himself, he often goes on rants about religion, equality, but most of all about whaling. This book is very gay as well, far gayer than I anticipated.
