overall, loved it! felt a little bored at times but only because i feel like this one (since it was the first published one) was setting up the real story that’s going to be major and coming up!

i’m overall loving Celaena as a mc and i love the new supporting characters and can’t wait to see more of them! still missing Sam through ofc.

Nehemia, ugh i love her. i feel like it’s so important for Celaena to have friends, especially women friends! it’s so important for women to make connections with other women, like absolutely critical! especially after all that’s happened with Ansel, Celaena deserved a good friend like Nehemia.

I love Dorian! he’s a very likable character with great banter! although i could see the flirtatious potential between him and Celaena, i already could tell they fs weren’t going to be endgame. it was giving friends who had a flirtatious fling for a while and genuinely care for each other, but it just wouldn’t have worked. i feel like they’re a lot better as friends tbh, but if their storyline was written different then maybe i would’ve preferred them as a couple! overall i’m happy with them as just friends.

and Chaol, love him too ofc. he’s just guarded, but i lowkey like that because it leaves more room to build his character and see more growth with him and relationships! okay, don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but Celaena had more chemistry with him than Dorian i’m not even gonna lie. i lowkey wanna see where it goes, bc lowkey i’m excited overall the potential. but if they stay friends i’m happy too ofc.

and the world building, although it wasn’t all that much this book and its setting up for the next books, i’m still excited and am very much enjoying it. Assassin’s blade world building was great, but i understand why it was a little bit more limited in this one considering Celaena was in the castle the whole time. but i will say the magic system and more slight hints and introduction to it was great to see to!

anyways, i’m in love with this series so far and will for sure try to read the rest quicker compared to how long it took me to read this one due to my personal problems. ...more "
