Delicious. This book was simply delicious. Reading some other reviews I can understand why some people had qualms with this book, but I think a lot of the good outweighs potential complaints for me. I can agree that overall the book was definitely a little chaotic and had a lot of twists and turns and moments where I gasped and had to leave the room cause my boyfriend was breathing too loud and I had to focus. It gave me ACOWAR vibes very early on and I mean that as the highest compliment.

I'm personally a fan when the world building in a fantasy book takes place throughout rather than wasting tons of chapters up front. I like the pacing and feel it helps move the story along. And though it was a bit complicated with the human worlds vs fae vs gods, I still liked to learn on the journey. The romantic pacing in the story is where I could find some complaint. It felt like the lustful loathing to loving partners moved a little quick? The early flirting and banter, let us know it wouldn't be a slow burn and i definitely enjoyed the "will they won't they" dynamic early on. The quick turn in their relationship does makes sense when you get into the fae mating bond concept plus the heightened emotional toll of war and close proximity. He was already 12 steps ahead romantically and we were just waiting for her to catchup.

A strong feral FMC. Need I say more? I also just appreciate that she was 24. So many fantasy books have a teenage FMC so a mid 20s was a delightful change! I loved that both Fisher and Saeris were grumpy and sassy from the get go. She never knew when to hold her tongue even knowing the risks against speaking out to the king, or the various enemies throughout the story. Saeris was fiercely loyal. Desperate to get back home to protect her family, but even in her new found family she was quick to protect and defend.

And Fisher?? SWOON. Dark and mysterious but a heart of gold? It's giving German Shepherd and honestly I prefer a German Shepherd boyfriend compared to a Golden Retriever. Something a bit more special about when he only cares about a select few? Ugh I just loved him so much! ...more "
