" this book isn't worth the time to finish reading it. it had good potential because the whole race car driver thing hasn't been done a million times before, but it wasn't executed well. first thing that annoyed me right off the bat: the heroine's inse this book isn't worth the time to finish reading it. it had good potential because the whole race car driver thing hasn't been done a million times before, but it wasn't executed well. first thing that annoyed me right off the bat: the heroine's insecurity over her looks. ok, we get her being all self-deprecating about her physical appearance a lot, especially if there are other women around like her bff or her coworker.... and yet, there is a scene on like page 20 or something where the heroine describes how special and exotic her looks are "amethyst eyes" and "chestnut hair" and "large girls" (she means boobs, but she doesn't like to be explicit about this stuff except for the one time she says fuck fyi) "M shaped mouth" (i dont even know what that's supposed to mean but i interpreted it as she has a pouty mouth but idk thats just a fucking inference b/c ive never heard that used as a description for lips before. i hope im not the only one) so basically what can be gathered from this one scene is that she's basically like every guy's wet dream with curves and big lips and pretty hair and eyes and she's special as fuck but she's an insecure little twat whenever other women are around her, she shrinks into a little pity party where she says stuff like "i'd never be as gorgeous as them" (variations of that, not an actual quote but you get my point) it's soooooo lame i want to slap her, instead of sounding humble as i believe the author intended her to sound, our heroine just sounded oblivious and insecure which is not hot.

then we have this dead bf/fiance idk which but heroine, let's call her Empty Head, EH for short, makes the reader believe at first when she's being mauled by mr. sexy race car driver that she has a bf but it turns out that guy is dead and EH has issues stemming from that about loving/getting involved with/being sexual with other men. idk it wasn't a necessary part to the story imo, i think it was just a plot contrivance to try and make the heroine sound deep/dark or with some sort of baggage to make her more mysterious i dont really know to be honest

then we have her charity thing which is first introduced as "Our charity even is to raise money for The House" and you're sitting there like "what the fuck bitch??? please explain what the fuck you're talking about? what house? house for what? is this really charity or..." yeah so i just held tight and put my faith in the hopes that it would be explained soon and it sort of was... her charity project is this house for orphaned boys where Empty Head apparently spends ample time because she is such a saint (*cough* martyr. pity party anyone?) bc she's the only one who can work as many 24hr shifts as she can and she's obviously the most dedicated to her dear little boys. again, this was a plot contrivance so that the heroine Empty Head seemed deep and sensitive and caring and selfless and also so that sexy race car guy could try and bribe her into a date by making her agree to a contract so he could help her with this little charity project by giving her money. it wasn't 100% necessary and it bugged me a little.

let me explain why I am calling our dear beloved heroine Empty Head. She gets into this "banter" i think it's supposed to be, but she's not very witty, despite what she seems to think. Mr. I Can Have Whatever I Want is always saying the right thing to both shock Empty Head and to turn her on, apparently. But when Empty Head tries to form a witty rebuttal, she ends up sounding like some sort of horny moron i don't know. then she would basically pat herself on the back for being so witty because she would think things like "HA! take that!" right after she throws some lame ass response at her Sexy Piece of Man Meat

heroine obviously annoyed me

Hero's deep dark secret was too obvious and I haven't even read that far, I read up to their first date. It's super obvious that Colton was adopted by his Hollywood parents and had something bad happen to him because of his birth parents when he was little and ugh i hated it. His hints he dropped were more like giant fucking bombs, his forte was not being subtle. But not to fret, Empty Head doesn't catch on because she's too busy trying to resist his infinite charms and thinking of witty comebacks

writing style was off. I don't know what it was, I think her syntax was weird and she focused too much on Empty Head's daily rituals and that was unnecessary as well as boring. Like, for instance, she visits bff and roommate after a long day at work and all they do is mention how the two girls met freshman year in college when they were assigned as roommates and drank cheap tequila. then the two bff's discussed how Empty Head has issues going on but she'd rather not talk about them so she gives bff a lame excuse and bff buys it. the end. that scene is like too many pages because it shouldn't have been included at all because it achieved nothing. It did not develop any characters, reveal any plot, nor entertain the reader in any way. we could have guessed that they were roommates in college and that that's how they met, that's how 90% of these types of books go anyway.

ok so obviously this book is not for me because I'm rambling and it's gotten me into a tizzy and I don't even give any more fucks about spoilers I'm going to mark this whole thing as a spoiler so I can be lazy

I give this book two stars solely based on the fact that the idea was new and not one that had been overused and it did keep me entertained the first 10% of the book, I wanted so bad for it to get good but it didn't by the time my patience had worn thin, and that's a pattern I see with this book for other readers so I don't know why I should bother wasting anymore time on this book. I have plenty more to read with better reviews so, on to the next one i go! ...more "
