"on page 74 anolik used the word stratagems for didion. i fear i see where this is going.

sure it's this deliberate reframing intent on rescuing didion from the sentimental image of the perfect wife, insisting on her ambition and edge. yet this correction feels imposed and not earned where the domestic didion was once flattened into passivity, anolik is sharpening her into something unduly severe."

"read post nap on my flight home.
really do not enjoy the prose. but maybe it's good to not only always read devastatingly haunting books with every line being a terrific one liner."

Sylvia Plath
“One word, one gesture, and all that is pent up in you - festered resentments, gangrenous jealousies, superfluous desires - unfulfilled - all that will burst out of you in angry impotent tears - in embarrassed sobbing and blubbering to no one in particular. No arms will enfold you, no voice will say, 'There, There. Sleep and forget.' No, in your new and horrible independence you feel the dangerous premonitory ache, arising from little sleep and taut strung nerves, and a feeling that the cards have been stacked high against you this once, and that they are still being heaped up. An outlet you need, and they are sealed. You live night and day in the dark cramped prison you have made for yourself.”
Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

Sally Rooney
“She lets out a trembling kind of laugh. Well, if there is a God, she says, I'm sure he loves you very much. He lowers his eyes. Yeah, I can feel that sometimes, he says. Like when I'm with you, I can. If you don't mind me saying that.”
Sally Rooney, Intermezzo

Kazuo Ishiguro
“There was something very special, but it wasn't inside Josie. It was inside those who loved her.”
Kazuo Ishiguro, Klara and the Sun

“Marianne had the sense that her real life was happening somewhere very far away, happening without her, and she didn't know if she would ever find out where it was or become part of it.”
Sally Rooney, Normal People

Sally Rooney
“And yet, accepting the premise, allowing life to mean nothing for a moment, doesn’t it simply feel good”
Sally Rooney, Intermezzo
