" i’m sitting on page 44 and i already hate it. the fl is just acting like a child, their interactions feel awkward and forced, as do their conversations, their thoughts almost felt contradictory to their actions. the story already feels rushed, it’s d i’m sitting on page 44 and i already hate it. the fl is just acting like a child, their interactions feel awkward and forced, as do their conversations, their thoughts almost felt contradictory to their actions. the story already feels rushed, it’s definitely going to be they fall for each other fast, but literally the first chapter she’s fucking around with this one guy and seems to “love him” and the ml has like a whole chapter where he’s talking about marriage with some girl who keeps rejecting him but LIKE THROUGH ALL OF THAT, they way they are thinking it’s like they already love each other almost? which is fine and dandy, IF THEY WEREN’T LITERALLY SPEND THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS FAWNING OVER DIFFERENT PEOPLE. AND THEYRE TOUCHING EACH OTHER ALREADY?! (not in that way obviously) even though he thinks she has a boyfriend (who’s not even the guy she’s been ‘dating’ which is pretty much how i would describe it) AND HE HAD LIKE A WHOLE TWO PARAGRAPH RANT ABOUT HOW HE HATES CHEATERS, which as someone who said that was crossing boundaries of which i would say inappropriate for someone who believes she has a boyfriend. (it’s the bathroom/bedroom/leaving that and having that confrontation with aaron at the party). it just feels, weird, you know like their feelings could be so fleeting that they could switch up on their “partners”, even if it’s just someone they took an interest in, at the drop of a dime. especially if it’s for someone you don’t even know at all or someone who you’re supposed to be butting heads with at first, that’s how they’re interactions and conversations feel forced, you know?
also the side characters lowkey already suck (Robbie is like the only one i like). and don’t even get me started on the writing style, one of my biggest issues with books is when the writing feels… childish, i guess that’s the best way for me to describe it, like i’m sorry you can’t just scribble your random thoughts of how you think people interact and talk to each other, push them together and call it a book. there’s no depth in the words, no feelings. i think personally for me, i already have a hard time reading modern books because they seems to all follow this 14 year old wattpad novel basic english style for some gods damned reason and drives me up the walls. maybe that’s me, that might be a me thing, as i’m a fantasy reader for the most part, i like the whimsical, i hate saying “sophisticated” because i feel like that makes me a “i’m not like other girls”, but gods. i don’t even care anymore. OH AND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, the RIVALRY! i’m a big lover of an enemies to lovers trope, but holy and wholly shit, it feels like a five year old’s petty tantrum because they don’t want to share their spider-man toy with someone else. i wanted to like this book, i really really wanted to, but this is the third hockey book i dropped (even though i was so excited for them) because of shitty writing and childish behavior, all these characters have been annoying and i hate that. but again it could be a me thing. i’ll see if i pick it up and change my review. ...more "
