This book ticks off the category " A book that teaches you about another time in history". We learnt parts of the book in class. This book also reflects to another book called Freedom Writers because of the theme apartheid and segregation.
The character I found interesting was definitely Minny because of her humorous behavior. She is also my favorite because she is shows that she is brave and strong-minded even though she is abused by her husband.
My favourite quote is “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” because it shows how strong the relationship is between Aibileen and Mae Mobley. Aibileen was very important in the story too and also to Mae Mobley's life because she loves him as if she was his own mother.
Something I learnt from the book is that it takes alot of determination and an open mind to fight against racism. Nothing can be done by just sitting around thinking about - you have to cure the problem....more

This book follows the live of Oliver, of how he was brought up in many disrespectful ways, how he was taught to steal and beg. If you did not obey any of his rules or commands, he would kill or shoot you on the dot!
My least favourite character in this book was Fagin a criminal because he uses helpless orphan boys to steal objects from people and give it to him. He trains them to do many bad things.
My favourite quote from the book was "please sir I want more" because when Oliver was still hungry and not satisfied he asked if he could have some more food and Mr Bumble told him off and spanked him with his wooden spoon. This shows, how hard life was hard in the orphanage and how people can be disrespectful and rude.
If Oliver was a guest from my house, my family would give him as many serves if he wanted. There's a verse in the bible; "Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honour the king" -1 Peter 2:17
Something I learnt from this book was how hard it was for orphans to deal with such cruel and disgusting ways. I also learned that you should be happy for where you are. Some people don't have either of these things such as shelter, food, water, first aid and most important- love. Also love your parents for everything they have done for you like buying you clothes and offering you an education....more

I always like books that have new covers because I feel like royalty receiving every new things and I know there's a saying " Don't judge a book by its cover" but I just keep it in my head.
On the bingo board this book covers the category of "a book recommended by a family member". This book was recommended to me by my sister.
The character that interested me the most was the boy and the grandmother.Even though the boy's parents died he still had faith and he never lost hope. The grandmother would be my favourite character because she acted exactly like my mother. She was a fantastic story teller and had an amazing memory.
A quote I liked from the book was "The world of women is not quite it seems" because it is saying that some women in this world might not be as nice as they seem and also never judge someone by how they look or dress.
The characters I disliked were the witches of course! They are completely bald so they always wear wigs, they constantly sneak their hands underneath to scratch their itchy scalps. They don't have any toes and have square feet, but they force their feet into narrow, fashionable shoes to blend in. They have really long, curved fingernails that they usually hide by wearing gloves. Also the meanest, nastiest, dreadful witches live in England.
Something I learnt from the book was never to talk to strangers especially the ones who have blue saliva and long gloves, you never know - they might be witches or worse! She might be the Grand High Witch!...more
