I find it hard to find definitions deserving enough to describe this masterpiece. From cover to cover, I was enthralled in the story of Gabriel de León like a vampire's thrall to their undead master. The author tossed my mind around like a rag doll page to page, always leaving me with endless questions and limitless theories. I couldn't stop long enough to ponder on them, as I was dying to read the next word. Few stories have made me cry and cheer as hard as this one. Having magnificent characters who I'd die on a hill for, and other truly hellish creatures I'd wish suffer grander. This novel was more than I ever could have expected or prepared for. Fighting the urge to fidget or bite my nails in stress over what may happen next had me practically sitting on my hands between turning the pages. Kristoff's writing style is one to be treasured and adored, for there is none like it that I've read thus far. Countless moments hit me right in the gut, and others the heart leaving me speechless in awe as I reread those passages repeatedly. Tabbing every single one of them for when I come back for future rereads, I can reflect on how those words struck me so fiercely.
No summary I could ever write would come close to doing this bloody beautiful story justice. If you're an admirer of one of a kind writing styles, and want a story that will make you think and feel things deep in your heart and soul... Then please pick up this book and be prepared to buy the next one before you finish it this one!
I'm not sure other books even stand a chance at comparing to how this book made me feel and think. Both while reading it and forever after. Forever I will be imaging new words and phrases I could use to try my best at even coming close to describing this towering and unforgettable story.
