quiet and reclusive that all I really knew about him I learned on the day he interviewed me, when he said certain scents gave him migraines so I’d have to use his brand of shaving cream and deodorant if I wanted to live there.

I loved The Dive From Claussens Pier so was really looking forward to this book, The Children's Crusade. About 2/3 of the way through the book I decided that I liked it, but until then it was nearly a DNF (which I NEVER DO). Embracing the complicated dynamics of family the book grew on me, but it was a slow starter.
