WoA did make me tear up on like 3 separate occasions, always because I was touched. This moment between Tindwyl and Sazed:
“Do you know why I love you, Sazed?” she asked quietly. “I cannot fathom,” he answered honestly. “Because you never give in,” she said. “Other men are strong like bricks—firm, unyielding, but if you pound on them long enough, they crack. You… you’re strong like the wind. Always there, so willing to bend, but never apologetic for the times when you must be firm. I don’t think any of your friends understand what a power they had in you.”
It was in this moment and after it, where the war drums sounded that I felt I absolutely needed to continue and read the rest of the book that day. Once the drums sounded my heart was thumping I needed to see how it would all turn out.
When we found out Zane was Elend’s brother I was like oh no. Are we about to do this trope where the main girl is caught between two brothers, one tortured and the other an idealist? When hints that it would be this way came I was disappointed but in the end it wasn’t quite that same story/trope.
The end really did redeem the beginning of the book for me though — Vin taking control of the koloss, the mist being appearing not only to Vin but also to Elend and Sazed and trying to help them, Zane’s absolutely unhinged attempt at getting Vin to go with him (YOURE SUPPOSED TO SAVE ME), “God” in his head being whatever creature was released at the Well, the way Sazed defended his gate, Sazed’s entire arc, the Well being in Luthadel hidden in Kredik Shaw, Vin being so close to having all of that power and giving it up to the beast inside. Marsh also being controlled by the voice it seems and trying to kill Sazed! I haven’t listed everything of course and I still have so much to process.
But I feel I need to start the next book IMMEDIATELY....more

I loved Lucy Gray, the Covey, and learning more about life in the Capitol and the origins of the Games. I read this after watching the movies and I really enjoyed being in the head / hearing the internal monologue of someone Coriolanus, as it added a lot to the story. I also appreciate characters I really dislike as people, like him. He is utterly frustrating and has horrifying intentions and thoughts about others, while justifying every selfish and misguided action he takes. But he is also a product of Capitol propaganda, indoctrination, and war and is certainly a pawn for the Capitol. You know the Shakespeare quote “All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players” — in this case all the world’s an arena (which is also a stage) and everyone is a tribute/player. Also the book has lots of references to Shakespeare’s play “Coriolanus.” Coriolanus descended into thinking Lucy Gray was trying to kill him so quickly! I do think the pacing there was a bit too fast for me at least. He was always unstable but in this case he was really going from 0 to 100. As soon as he can’t immediately find her he assumes a snowball of things leading to him trying to kill her....more
