I don’t even know where to start with this one because I’m still not okay. This book took everything I loved about the first book and cranked it up until it hurt in the best possible way. The plot does not slow down, it schemes. Every chapter felt intentional, layered, and quietly setting you up for that absolutely unhinged ending. And yes, I am still thinking about it. No, I have not recovered.

Elyria continues to be one of those FMCs I’d follow into battle without question. She’s still soft where it matters, but she’s sharper, stronger, and more sure of herself. Watching her grow without losing who she is? Chef’s kiss. And Cedric...wow. The growth. The self-acceptance. The way he carries himself now without needing to dominate anyone to prove his strength. It’s rare, it’s refreshing, and it works. I already fear his inevitable revenge era, and I am both thrilled and terrified.

The yearning in this book should be illegal. The slow burn finally ignites, but it never feels rushed or cheap. Add in political tension, reluctant alliances, found family, and magic that feels dark and dangerous, and I was fully locked in.

And that ending? Crazy. I need book three immediately, even though I’m not emotionally prepared for it to exist.
