Dual POV with Ali Hazelwood unlocked and it’s wonderful. Honestly, a lot of her novels would benefit from a dual point-of-view, but I’m glad this one had it. Eli Killgore top Ali Hazelwood men. This felt like normal Ali, expectedly, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really loved Eli and Rue as characters, their inner turmoils and the trauma they’re both dealing with leads to them feeling very well-rounded. The entire aspect of them telling horrible stories to one another was something I loved, and I think it solidified their connection to one another. But I will say, it’s like we have all the pieces of their trauma, but it never goes deep enough into their issues and it made me kind of sad, because Eli was entertaining, and tragic, and so was Rue. And together??? Their banter was wonderful. Getting to read how down bad Eli was for her, through all of her awkwardness, was so lovely. There would have been much more weight if the plot veered away from the workplace drama and more into their respective traumas. The entire thing about them not being capable of love, and their pasts, it’s all laid out, only for it to get overshadowed by other parts of the plot. I would have liked Eli to have more scenes with his sister, or more of a conclusive scene with Rue and her brother as well. It’s good to know Ali took a slightly similar concept with Deep End and ended up excelling on it a lot better, but Eli and Rue are so lovely, they deserved that too. All that said; ELI KILLGORE!

The workplace drama/plot was not boring, but I was not very into it for more than half the book. It has more weight to it in the latter half, and I was glad for that.

Even with these slight downfalls, this novel is still your run-of-the mill Ali Hazelwood, where you will be laughing, and enjoying how down bad the MMC is for the FMC. This book is more sex-heavy, but it works here. It would just work even better if what I mentioned above was more apart of the novel.

Interested to see how things play out in the ‘sequel’ to this book, also!!! ...more "
