Hello everyone, In light of current events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement, I think it is important we educate ourselves on prevalent iss Hello everyone, In light of current events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement, I think it is important we educate ourselves on prevalent issues with race and racism. I have compiled a list of texts deemed essential to understand the foundations of racism and the repercussions of living in a default-white world. These books act as tools to raise awareness of major issues regarding racism and white privilege, while also allowing us to better articulate ourselves during debates with family members/friends who remain ignorant. We choose to be ignorant as much as we choose to enlighten ourselves, and this group is principally about educating ourselves so we have the best chance to educate others. Although this group will mostly include non-fiction, fictional works with underlying themes of racism have been included. These can be equally important in understanding key messages. HOW THIS BOOK SWAP WILL WORK: The purpose of this book swap is to allow us to share multiple resources among ourselves at an affordable price, following 5 simple steps: 1. Purchase a physical copy of one recommended text. 2. Track your progress on Goodreads whilst reading this book. 3. Whilst nearing the end of your read, check in on your fellow group members to see who is almost finished their book. 4. Contact this member to see if they would like to swap books with you. 5. Mail each other a copy of your respective books, and start the process all over again :) It's that simple. Buy one book, have access to many! The goal is not to read EVERY single book in the reading list, but to deeply connect with the one you currently have before moving to the next. Every book you read has its own story and will be responsible for educating you further. Feel free to directly message me for more information or any book suggestions I can add to the list.
