Dara, my sweet misunderstood lil murderer. People want morally grey characters and can’t even handle Dara. Did he make me want to jump off a cliff at times ? Yes. It’s true that he should’ve left Manizeh when he first felt how wrong her actions truly were. But he knows that, and he is spending the rest of his life in penance. That should settle that debate. Besides i LOVE morally grey characters so I loved him the whole way through.

As for Dara and Nahri, romantically they weren’t ever gonna work out. I think we saw this from the way the last 10% of the first book played out. Dara’s actions were so wrong there. But oh my god their GOODBYE???? I WAS IN TEARS MY HEART HURTTTT. It’s like how people say a breakup that ends on good terms is worse than a breakup that ends on bad terms. The way he wiped away her tears and how she clung to him UGHHHHH no it was so sad genuinely. But I do think it had to happen; like Nahri said I don’t think Dara could’ve stayed in Daevabad.

Now let’s go to Alizayd. Honestly I didn’t know what to think about him in the first book. It was the second book that made me team Ali and this book that made me root for Nahri and Ali romantically. The way he was SO SMITTEN I can’t. Bro got nervous every time he interacted w her HHEHEEH. Like genuinely when he first started showing feelings in like book 1/2 I didn’t wanna be on board with it coz I wasn’t over Dara but bruh you can’t resist when it’s SUCH good chemistry.

I’m so glad that after everything it ended good. Everyone got a happy ending, even Dara in his own way. I don’t usually read the acknowledgement parts of books but I couldn’t resist with this author, this series is just so unique. I loved how she ended it with “with every hardship comes ease” because it reminds us especially as Muslims how vast Allahs mercy is. I loved the Islamic themes in this whole series it’s what made it stand out to me. I genuinely am gonna be thinking about this series every day now and I will reread eventually. ...more "
