2021, It's 2 AM, my dad is snoring on the couch, me and my 2 sisters are searching through Mom's old stuff from her 20s in Dubai when we come across an old purse. Firstly, the purse looks beautiful and is extremely "2000s coded" (as my elder sister would put it), and secondly, in one of the zips is a teeny weeny AMC movie ticket, to what? Twilight. Now the name was familiar to me because my mom had shown us the film on netflix a couple times and secondly, my mother also told me that she had seen all the movies. A year later, I do my research after falling in love with the hunger games, young adult literature and reading in general and discover that it is one of the most famous pieces of ya literature, ever. (Looking at images of twilight mania I wish I was alive at that time.) So I ask my mum when I can read it and she tells me 16. I was not waiting 7 years to read a fictional masterpiece, but I obeyed. I am now 13 and my mother let me read it after showing her an age rating and finding it in a thrift store, (thank god for common sense media.) Now that I have reached my teenage years, the reason I wanted to read this book was not primarily because I wanted to indulge myself with a fictional masterpiece, but to watch the movie so I can see my crush (AKA baby - (shes mine)) Kristin Stewart on my 85 inch tv for 122 minutes, (as an avid reader, I follow a strict book before movie rule.)
If I can sum up this book in a sentence, I would say, It is not what you think it is.

An hour after starting Twilight: (Mrs Meyer, I want you to convince me that there is no crack in between these pages because if the thrifted copy of this book was not crack-infused, what am I on?)

I have to guiltily admit, this book is probably on my mental list of 5 books I would save if my bookshelf was on fire (or the 5 books that are my favourite if you wanna put it that way.) Firstly, as the reputation of this novel filled me with prejudice, I was expecting crappy writing but no, instead I was given a beautiful writing style that I could describe as a mixture of Suzanne Collins immersiveness and fast paced writing style mixed with John Green's character, Hazel Grace Lancaster's snark. The novel is full of TEENAGE ANGST and sarchasm and I laughed a lot more during this read than I though I would. I was extremely immersed in the lore of the vampires and werewolves that this book contains. As a side note, when I was younger I had an interest in vampires and other creepy creatures and also, I enjoy myself some good lore. I think this is one of the aspects that makes this novel so successful. I was reading this book in drama class, and my teacher discovered what I was reading and told me how much her father loves this series, am I'm guessing its the lore or the romance which is what appealed to him. Another aspect was the high school/contemporary setting mixed with fantastical lore, because I am not big on full fantasy , but I enjpy realism and urban paranormal-ness in my stories so this book was everything. Did I forget to mention the romance? Because this has to be one of the best, if not best, love stories I have read. Honestly everything about this novel is perfect, (excuse my corny moment, but) it is the butter to my jelly, the pillow to my bed, the everything to my everything. Ignore the stupid reviews of the haters who have no life and are probably way older than the intended age for this saga, because this story is full of bite and will be one of the best books you will ever read. ...more "
