This description of a veteran alone in the basement with his wife( and children) upstairs was my life for over 20 years. Looking back I see what that life was like, reading this paragraph was a revelation to me, we were not alone. We were not the only ones living this life. It certainly doesn’t make it better but it makes one realize that others were living this secret life. From the outside we appeared a normal, functional family. One never alluded to the anguish and the fear present in our home. After reading this one simple truth I can say- “This was us”
