I think I was more angry than anything. Backman has an ability that a lot of authors lack: to allow the readers to feel their own emotions instead of telling them how they are supposed to feel.
I think that this book was a perfect commentary on "celebrity" culture... how celebrities whether local (like Kevin) or international get away with just about anything because society doesn't want to reshape their views on that particular person. If Beartown would have been able to accept the truth of what Kevin did- the town would have had to totally reshape their culture without their namesake, which I guess in their minds was too hard.
I LOVED Ana- I think most of the time the main character's best friend is my favorite and Ana was definitely one of my favorite characters.
I also thought Maya was a great character. Very much oldest daughter vibes (taking care of her parents when they should be taking care of her) and she was very strong and a total badass... loved her!!! I thought Peter's perspective was interesting and at first I thought his distance from Maya after she told the truth was due to a conflict of interest (being the GM of Kevin's team and Maya's dad), but I'm glad he pretty much fully sided with Maya and was willing to put his life behind him for his daughter. I also loved Leo- he reminded me so much of my brother and I love that kid. And Kira, she was interesting because I feel like she was a real example of how sometimes parents think they are feeling their kid's pain more than their kid- and while she no doubt was deeply in pain... it was Maya's trauma.
Benji- While, I think he should have spoken up sooner, I liked him more than any of the other hockey players and I thought him being praised as like a straight dude hockey player and being a closeted gay man was an interested side story.
David- Bitch boy, I hate him
Romana- Queen love her!!!!
