This paragraph reminds me of a scene from the movie INHERIT THE WIND starring, among other Hollywood luminaries, Spencer Tracy and Frederic March. In the scene, Tracy, playing attorney Henry Drummond, a character modeled after famed criminal lawyer Clarence Darrow, is addressing the jury about the price mankind pays for progress. He says, MADAM, YOU MAY FLY BUT THE BIRDS WILL LOSE THEIR WONDER AND THE CLOUDS WILL SMELL OF GASOLINE.
