"Thoughts after the end of Part One. I’m really excited to see where this goes! While setting up some of the external conflict with the rebels and Prince Henan, I felt like this was more so one big character study of Zhu and it was beautifully executed! Zhu’s desire to escape her fate, to become nothing, is palpable and I can’t wait to see what happens next!" 8 hours, 28 min ago

Suzanne Collins
“They will not use my tears for their entertainment.”
Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping

Suzanne Collins
“Good-bye, Maysilee Donner, who I loathed, then grudgingly respected, then loved. Not as a sweetheart or even a friend. A sister, I’d said. But what is that exactly? I think about our journey — everything from sniping with her in those early days after the reaping to battling those pink birds. I guess that’s my answer. A sister is someone you fight with and fight for. Tooth and nail.”
Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping

R.F. Kuang
“Violence shows them how much we’re willing to give up,’ said Griffin. ‘Violence is the only language they understand, because their system of extraction is inherently violent. Violence shocks the system. And the system cannot survive the shock. You have no idea what you’re capable of, truly. You can’t imagine how the world might shift unless you pull the trigger.”
R.F. Kuang, Babel

R.F. Kuang
“English did not just borrow words from other languages; it was stuffed to the brim with foreign influences, a Frankenstein vernacular. And Robin found it incredible, how this country, whose citizens prided themselves so much on being better than the rest of the world, could not make it through an afternoon tea without borrowed goods.”
R.F. Kuang, Babel

“I love you like all-fire.”
