Now on to plotting. As has been mentioned in other reviews, I'm starting to become frustrated by the lack of consequences of the perpetrators in the last 5 or so books. They get away with attempted murder and the victim seems to care less. I guess that's supposed to show Julian's magnanimous nature -- but honestly, NO one is that virtuous. Yes, he self-flatulates a lot, feeling he deserves every heinous thing done to him, but honestly....enough is enough. I, as a reader, can only see a good, main character abused do much before I'm going to step away -- and it's getting close to that time.

My dislike of Hyperia is growing. I do not blame her for the encounter (nay, assault) with Harry. She was young, she was drinking, and he talked her into drinking a dangerous hallucinogenic. If intercourse did happen (and the way it's written, I'm not sure), it's pure assault; well yeah, even if penetration didn't happen, he took off her clothes and crawled into bed with her. Assault. So this event is not what brings out my ire.

It's the revealing that she kept this from Julian all this time -- all this time she was accusing him of breaking trust, of keeping secrets, of treating her cheaply. SERIOUSLY?? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! And all he has is a momentary episode of private internal anger??? He should absolutely never trust a thing that comes out of her mouth again because she lies when it's convenient for her. Maybe this is the author's plan -- she's shown that every other character in this series can and does practice infidelity like it's a national past time, nobody holds to the truth, and marriage vows are a joke. I see no different if Julian ends up marrying Perry, and I say she's far, far beneath him. And she's going to break his heart badly in the near future.

I wish he could get together with someone more worthy, like the widow Mrs Witherspoon. Their personalities seems much more suited, and she's serious about personal honor. Ah well, if only I were writing things..... ...more "
