The trio is as normal as it can get. Besides the fact that each one of them is a child of a Greek God. These “demigods” (half god half mortal) have been selected to go on a quest in search of Hera, the Greek Goddess of the earth who has been captured and held prisoner by unknown forces. They must find Hera before the winter solstice to stop the oncoming war between the Gods and the Giants that the gods had imprisoned centuries ago. And on their quest the group encounters many mythological foes who try to stop them from achieving their goal of rescuing Hera.

Riordan uses modern aspects to portray Greek Mythology by placing Gods, Monsters, and other creatures of fantasy in everyday places and has them hiding in sight. This clever use of trickery and camouflage played a major role in the book and series but also kept the idea of magic alive in the readers own life. Even the thought of monsters and gods hiding in our own world kept me wanting to read more and more.

The series itself is always filled with witty remarks and pop-culture reference humor. Riordan's use of comedy was fresh, smart, and well written. He had no overkill and always knew just the right place to add a “zing” to a chapter or sentence. His comedy was also was perfectly intertwined with the actual writing styles. Ricks style of chapter organization is unique and very well made. He has each chapter put into the perspective of a character. Which gave the reader a look into the characters minds which showed their perspectives and revealed their thoughts without making the writing a narrative.

The “Percy Jackson series” and the “Heroes of Olympus” are both made with flawless writing skills and techniques and are filled with action adventure and always have a great amount of humor. Rick Riordans writing deserves to be recognized due to its beautiful work and storytelling ability. As a fan of the series myself I highly recommend it to those who want a book that truly delivers. ...more "
