The Body Finder
This mystery novel, The Body Finder, written by Kimberly Derting, takes place in Buckley, Washington in present time. In this small town, things start to become out of the ordinary when a killer lurks around towns nearby preying and killing teenage girls. When the serial killer makes a body dump in Buckley, Washington, Violet Ambrose’s town, things take a turn for the worst. Violet’s echo instinct kicks in when she gets close to a body dumped at the lake by the unknown killer. This ability Violet possesses is sensing echoes. Echoes are calls from dead animals and people that have been prematurely killed or murdered.  
Violet Ambrose, the main character, has the same trait that her grandma once had. This trait is sensing echoes from the dead. As the serial killer is somewhere close by, Violet feels the need to find him. When she starts hunting him down, it reveals her true colors along the way. Violet shows she is just as scared as any other girl in her town. Her bravery subsides when she fears she will sense the imprint of a murdered girl’s echo on the killer, and then she will become his next victim. Violet’s insecurities make her vulnerable, which is to be expected from seeing death.

Violet’s best friend, Jay Heaton, is the object of her secret affection. Since childhood, Jay has always been friends with Violet and is the only person outside of her family that knows of her special ability. But, what Violet and Jay don’t realize, is that they both want to be more than friends with the other. Jay has an outgoing personality, and loves helping others, especially his mom and Violet. He is always willing to drop whatever he is doing to help Violet. Though Jay also has a hilarious sarcastic side that Violet enjoys, he takes change through the book and begins becoming more protective of Violet. Violet enjoys this because she starts to realize that he really does care about her in a way that is more than friendship.

While the Police and Violet’s Uncle, also a Police Chief, are out looking for the killer, Violet conducts her own search, with help from Jay. However, when two girls go missing in her town, search parties begin to look everywhere. Violet decides to go out on her own to search. As she searches in the forest, Violet senses the imprint of the murdered girl she found at the lake and knows the killer is close by. As she explores through the forest, she bumps into a huge police officer. Startled, she runs past him. As she quickly follows the imprint, she senses a man nearby - the killer. Standing over what appears to be a new body, she could only hope it wasn’t one of the girls that went missing in her town. ...more "
