I was promised "lesbian necromancers in space" so I knew I would enjoy this book but I severely underestimated how MUCH I would enjoy this book (a lot. I enjoyed it a lot).

A lot of jargon and names get thrown at you from the jump and it can be a little hard to follow at times but I was propelled forward by sheer enjoyment and how enthralled I was with how things were unfolding, so I wasn't super bothered by this.

I was a little skeptical of a how the sci fi and fantasy elements would work together but I felt it was done very effectively and itched something very specific in my brain. the environment is so cool to imagine, from the characters clothing and appearances to the settings they came from and explored throughout the book... idk the worldbuilding just reeeeeally worked for me.

the FIGHT SCENES TOO oh my GOD those were cool. every one had me so locked in, I feel like the environment really lended to such a cool picture being painted. part of this is also due to how dynamic and interesting the whole cast of characters are.

I can see how this writing style wouldn't be for everyone, but I think Gideon as a narrator and the sillier moments juxtaposed but also melded with the setting and darker elements really well. Gideon's perspective and thoughts are a big part of why this was such a fun read, I absolutely adore her as a character, especially in this setting.

I have a lot of feelings about the arcs of harrow and gideon but not a lot of words. I'm just kind of obsessed with them. I cannot stop thinking about them. they make me ILL

the end of this book did make me cry and I felt like an empty husk of a person for the rest of the evening, which I was not prepared for; you have been warned...

overall yeah this was a really fun read I thoroughly enjoyed myself I can't wait to continue this series
