It is so fantastic, and I’m so angry that I’ve owned it for two years and just now got around to reading it.

Kings of the Wyld delivered everything I wanted and things I didn’t know I needed. The cast of characters in this book stole my heart, one by one, and then all together. Their individual personalities are lovely, quirky, and vastly entertaining, but their friendship is without equal for me. The bonds between the band owns my heart, and I will never be okay again.

The pacing grabs you at the start and drags you along through the last page. It’s breakneck and never really lets up. The guys stumble from one disaster to the next in an amazing display of bad decisions and worse luck that never stops being entertaining.

Every character you meet feels real. Eames packed so much personality into this book, it’s astounding. Every side character has personality and agency, and no one is a throw away. Considering the large cast that comes and goes, I never got characters confused, which is amazing.

I’m generally a pretty sedate reader. I enjoy humor in my books, but rarely do jokes pull more from me than a smile to myself. This book had me laughing out loud with consistency. Until I’d turn the page and it’d break my heart. The ridiculous highs and humor make the quiet emotional moments that much more powerful, and it hurts so good. Also, I didn’t know a book could have comedic timing before Kings of the Wyld, but here we are. As a caveat, I will say if you don’t like this particular brand of humor - a bit absurdist with heavy doses of sarcasm and slapstick - then you might struggle with the book.

The writing itself was both poignant and accessible, and more than once I found myself pausing to appreciate a description or turn of phrase.

Finally, as I could continue to gush about this book forever, Chapter 49. Just Chapter 49. I actually put the book down after it and just stared at the wall for a few minutes.

King’s of the Wyld is an absolute blast to read, and I don’t know that I’ve ever had so much fun climbing into a fantasy world. I was not ready to say goodbye on the last page of this book and expect I’ll be revisiting these characters like old friends for many years to come. ...more "
