The Cover: Love, love, love! That dress is absolutely stunning...and it's obviously a wedding gown. So does this mean America is chosen, or are all the girls lining up in bridal wear waiting for Maxon to make his pick? Finally, we're about to find out.

The Book: As if we didn't think she'd do it again, she did. Kiera Cass managed to upstage herself one more time with her beautiful and intricate masterpiece, The One. Each chapter brought in a new twist, revealing hidden secrets and endless action. There were many opportunities for America to make a change on a great new level, touching the lives of the people she may one day rule. Forgive me for repeated usage of this term, but she is now Illéa's mockingjay. She is inspiring people. She is a voice of hope, courage, and strength. America is terrified of what can control her, but is brave enough to fight back. She tests the limits of the king's oppression to the fullest extent, knowing quite well the circumstances. She never thinks of just herself; she is looking for what is just and right.

There is so much action in this book. The first two were pretty mild and PG, but The One is unlike anything we've seen at the palace before. There is danger, blood, and death. The twists and turns that Kiera throws in are amazing...it's like a bomb is being dropped at every corner. The story is now about something so much bigger than just the Selection process. It is about love, friendship. loyalty, bravery, and being true to oneself. We finally get to really meet the characters in America's circle for the first time. Kriss, Celeste, and Elise are really not what we thought they were. When they reveal their true selves, they will shock you. Aspen exonerates himself by growing more brave, loyal, and selfless than you would expect. Maxon decides once and for all that he is no longer his father's doormat; the significant change in him will make you both love and hate him at the same time.

As the characters grow, so does the danger. There is more at risk than ever before, and America is purposely endangering herself to help make a change. As more and more people die in an ongoing rebellion that America never realized was happening, she realizes that there is much more at stake here than just a husband. She has become the face of hope in all Illéans that want to overthrow the king. If American has learned anything, it is that hope is stronger than fear (if Fives ever got a chance to read The Hunger Games).

The ending was perfect. Just perfect. The whole time I was reading my heart was in my throat. When I got the epilogue, the strings holding my heart were jerked once again, and then set it free. Many beloved characters were lost, but the endings were perfect for the ones who remained. I was blown away by how after such tragedy and loss, there was still intense happiness at the end. The only possible thing that would have made this series better would be another book! I have that sad, empty feeling of finishing the end of a series...not ready to move on but wanting more. This series NEEDS to be made into a movie. Thank you, Kiera Cass, for your amazing books! You are truly a goddess of YA.
