Detailed Summary: Part I - Mallory's Story: Mallory is a semi-successful author who's last novel was written seven years ago and lives an uninspired life. She is married to Ronan, a charismatic producer for Netflix who she seems to resent. During a speech at a house party they were hosting, Mallory hides in her closet. Before going up, her husband finds her and almost makes nonconsensual s*xual advances until his assistant comes in and informs him of his cue on stage. After the party, while he is asleep, she researches how to write a bestseller and proceeds to take semi-saucy pictures of him to create a Grindr account. She ends up chatting to a "daddy" and is invited to a chem-sex party. She sneaks out of the house and finds a young man getting beaten up in front of the house she was invited to. As he leaves, she follows him and sees him encountering a man that almost beats him to death, until she intervenes. After the assailant leaves, she books it back home. The next morning, she is grilled by her husband who is suspicious but can't place his finger on what she must be hiding. After he leaves for work, she stalks the kid and joins him at an AA meeting where she finds out his name is Leo. After telling an elaborate lie of a life led by addiction, she introduces herself personally to Leo as a therapist offering pro bono work. The incident inspires her to write a chapter for her editor. She receives glowing praise and notes, which pushes Mallory to continue with her plan to extort Leo and his lifestyle for writing ideas.

Leo's Story: Leo is a young, gay man who is addicted to hardcore drugs and lives in a halfway house. He begins the book shortchanging his drug dealer and running. The drugs were supposed to be for "daddy" and his house party, but he ends up skimming some from the top. To sweeten the deal, he steals some flowers from a gravesite to add to the drug offer. Soaking in the rain, he arrives at the house where he is stopped from entering until the drugs are properly checked. After finding out that he stole some, they push him over and refuse him entry to the house party. Upset that he can't get ahold of more drugs at the party, he leaves and runs into the drug dealer his stiffed. He is almost beaten to death until a lady saves him and leaves him to drunkenly sleep in a bush. After coming home to his halfway home, he is kicked out due to their strict no-drugs policy. With nowhere to turn, he goes to AA with plans to steal money from the collection basket. A lady begins telling her story, which gets him to share a bit of his story. After the meeting, she introduces herself as a therapist. Skeptical, Leo accepts her offer and contact information since he can take advantage of her and her amenities, at the very least.
