As I said on my previous review, I did the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn and, for me, this experience was much better! So much that I had to increase the rating I gave years ago to 4 stars. Mainly because Chaol's book became less of a burden to read after how the last book ended, because I was already reading as the events were unfolding. His book became just another pov's within the last book.
And yes, I still think Chaol was an asshole a lot of time of this book - both to Yrene and to keep leading Nesryn for so long every time the other women in his life left. I'm happy that Nesryn got herself a prince (and future heir) in the end!
At the same time I really liked his development! How he faced his demons (literal and not) and how he managed to grow so much.
Yrene. YRENE! I love her! And I loved her in this story even more! To me, I wouldn't mind reading a book with only her pov. I loved that she never put up with Chaol's bullshit, and wouldn't back down when he was being stubborn. And although all that, she was also very kind, always putting others before her own needs.
"The world needs more healers" really made me tear up!
I do have to say: their relationship took a lot of time to actually happen, I was reading it and thinking to myself "when are they going to get together?" specially because I remember that they marry before the end of this book.
And although they did take their sweet time to confess their feelings to one another, I didn't mind, as both characters needed to trust each other first. And, in theory, a lot of time passed, so them getting together this way felt more real (unlike Chaol and Celaene, that lasted basically a week and were already talking about marriage.........).
As for Nesryn, I will be honest, I couldn't care less for her pov's. I never did when I first read it, and didn't again (very much like Manon). I don't mind reading when she is amongst everyone, but when it's just her... my attention is never there.
Even when a lot was revealed during her chapters! And I mean, a lot!
All I'm going to say is that now I have to face the last book and although I know the end, I don't know if I'm ready D:

This time around I did the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, and honestly, I liked this experience much, much better!
There was so much covering on this book alone, we advanced so much with the plot - and there was always something happening, a problem arriving to complicate everything for our characters.
My favorite bits are, of course, the relationships (romantic and not) between them all - I love how Aelin and Lyssandra become best-friends for real, they really needed a female friend! And I know that Nehemia was there for Aelin, I can't help but feel bothered that she was scheming to get Aelin where she needed, for me it tainted their friendship.
I love how there was so many hints (subtle and not) of Aelin and Rowan being mates.
Love how Elide and Lorcan literally found each other and choose to be there for each other, when so many weren't.
Gavriel and Aedion meeting broke my heart, specially as I know what will happen in the end. However I love the title "Uncle Kit-cat" hehe
I understood better the relationship of Dorian and Manon, however I will say I don't really ship them yet. I get that he is going after someone who isn't as easily breakable after what happened to Sorscha and him, buuuuuut, I just don't see as them loving each other, but rather attraction.
And at last, I love that Aelin encharged Evangeline to put her charms at work and gain the alliance of the north for her.
All that aside, this was a very hard book to read as well. Mainly because Aelin schemed so much to guarantee the safety of them all, only to find out she will be the sacrifice necessary to end with the Valgs, and only to being taken by Maeve!
And yes, I know how the story will end, and I shouldn't stress myself so much, and neither suffer, but I love these characters too much to not get teared eyed when I see them feeling hopeless.
As for doing the tandem reading: seriously it was great! It made the connection between the two books more clear, as I was literally reading as the events were happening, so I didn't depend upon my memory later.
