i loved the perception and understanding of the teenagers idea of infinity showed in choboskys writing. the characters in this book are beautiful as they all have different understandings of the world and are each different. i love that their lives are no where near perfect, but that they can still show a teenage reader how to enjoy life, appreciate a song, and, a recurring theme in modern society; how to have a good time without alcohol, yet understanding the oming of age experiences rather than frowning upon them.
i feel that, if you did not enjoy this book then you can't have truly understood the meaning underneaf the story line. I feel chobsky is using this beautiful and lovely story line to explor3e the abstract and interesting yet damaged mind of charlie, through inciteful and thoughtful statements and opinions.
"we accept the love we think we deserve" is one of the cliche favourite quotes of this book, yet i love it as it is an issue that i have thought alot about over the years. a low confidence and issues with trust and insecurity are things that trouble most teenagers minds and Chobsky is showing us, and also the Charlie characters of the world, through this book, that we are not alone, and we can still enjoy life and make it beautiful.
im now on my 5th time of reading the book yet still love it and definatley reccomend reading it more than once, as each time there is more to appreciate and discover.
I especially love choboskys description of the tunnel;
"Anyway, Patrick started driving really fast, and just before we got to the tunnel, Sam stood up, and the wind turned her dress into ocean waves. When we hit the tunnel, all the sound got scooped up into a vacuum, and it was replaced by a song on the tape player. A beautiful song called "Landslide." When we got out of the tunnel, Sam screamed this really fun scream, and there it was. Downtown. Lights on buildings and everything that makes you wonder. Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started laughing.
And in that moment, I swear we were infinite"
