I'm going to have to rate this book DNF. I was thoroughly enjoying it despite it having rather weird POV ... is there such a thing as first person omniscient? Where the narrator is "I" but they know everything? Including what was going on in a dying I'm going to have to rate this book DNF. I was thoroughly enjoying it despite it having rather weird POV ... is there such a thing as first person omniscient? Where the narrator is "I" but they know everything? Including what was going on in a dying man's head and they weren't even there when the man is dying? In fact no one is, so you can't even say that someone told him their best guess. Anyway .. we were going along fine until the blasted book gave me nightmares. OK, when part 2 starts it does say 'read on at your peril' or some such thing, but I presumed that was just a writer's device. But this section is truly gruesome. Really, truly gruesome. And I'm no shrinking violet. I thought I was going OK with it though, until I woke at 2.54am in a sweat, consumed by the appalling dream I'd just had which was elements from this part 2. I couldn't get back to sleep until almost 6am and for the next day I felt swamped by the awful emotion of the nightmare. It was a truly horrible dream. Not being used to nightmares it really made me feel ill. A few days later, being a glutton for punishment, I went to pick the book up where I'd left off and couldn't. I felt swamped again by the awful emotion from that dream. I have it on Kindle and I almost dropped the Kindle. So maybe one day I may come back to finishing it, but right now it has to be a DNF....more
