“COMING FORTH INTO THE LIGHT

I was born the day
I thought:
What is?
What was?
And
What if?

I was transformed the day
My ego shattered,
And all the superficial, material
Things that mattered
To me before,
Suddenly ceased
To matter.

I really came into being
The day I no longer cared about
What the world thought of me,
Only on my thoughts for
Changing the world.”
Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun: The Writings of Suzy Kassem

Richard Brautigan
“For fear you will be alone
you do so many things
that aren’t you at all.”
Richard Brautigan

Aldous Huxley
“Words can be like X-rays, if you use them properly–they'll go through anything. You read and you're pierced.”
Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Richard Brautigan
“Watcha doin? If you're like me, you're doin nothin, but you're doin it so well that everybody thinks you're doin somethin.”
Richard Brautigan, The Edna Webster Collection of Undiscovered Writings

John Clare
I Am!

I am—yet what I am none cares or knows;
My friends forsake me like a memory lost:
I am the self-consumer of my woes—
They rise and vanish in oblivious host,
Like shadows in love’s frenzied stifled throes
And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed

Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,
Into the living sea of waking dreams,
Where there is neither sense of life or joys,
But the vast shipwreck of my life’s esteems;
Even the dearest that I loved the best
Are strange—nay, rather, stranger than the rest.

I long for scenes where man hath never trod
A place where woman never smiled or wept
There to abide with my Creator, God,
And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept,
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie
The grass below—above the vaulted sky.”
John Clare, "I Am": The Selected Poetry of John Clare
