I enjoyed this book because of its interesting characters and its plot. The main characters, such as in the previous books in the series, Jason, Percy, Annabeth, Piper, Hazel, Leo, and Frank are the protagonists and Gaea, mother earth, and her children the Giants from Greek mythology are the antagonists. All of the characters are very interesting and are described in great depth, the author portrays each character very often in the story. The plot, in short, is that the seven demigod heroes have to save civilization and the Greek Gods from Gaea, who is still coming back to power, they have to do this by closing the “Gates of Death” which are preventing monsters and villains from staying dead. The storyline is very intriguing and interesting, it keeps you wanting more from the story, and eventually, sad that the book is over. I also liked the amount of action in the story and how it is written and described. All action in the book is written in great detail and feels real, he uses imagery in a great way, and it’s as if you can see what is happening on a 50” inch HD LCD screen before your eyes.

I didn’t enjoy several minor parts of this book, such as the way the author focuses too much on the romantic relationships between several characters such as Jason and Piper and Percy and Annabeth. He goes too in depth in my opinion, I don’t think their romances play a big role in the story and think the story would have been fine without it. I also think the writer could have used stronger diction and a more complicated way of writing this story, it’s too simplistic at the moment I think.

Many people would like to read this story I think, specifically kids and adolescents who enjoy fiction and are interested in Greek and Roman mythology. It would definitely appeal to people in search of a book with lots of content and action.

The book The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan is to me a very good book with lots of action and interesting characters and an intriguing plot. I think it could be better if there were less romantic problems and if it was written more elaborately and with a better sense for who it was being read by, using a more sophisticated diction for example. I think many people would enjoy this book, especially people who enjoy reading about Greek and Roman mythology. ...more "
