The last book of Elodie’s I read I was a DNF because I felt like it was too much like a Regency romance. After reading the Alchemy Series, it almost felt like two different authors. But I decided to try it anyway, and I’m glad I did.

Selena is five days away from marrying Xavier when he comes and tells her he’s fallen in love with another woman and he cannot marry her. Her and Xavier have been promised to each other since birth. They don’t love each other or even have lust for each other, but she is devastated that he’s waited until five days before the wedding. Not only that but his father is so angry with him, he’s refused to let him succeed to the throne. She had dreams of being a duchess, spent her entire life planning around that eventuality only to fail just days before.

Enter Xavier’s brother Benedict. He comes to her with a plan. He asks her to marry him. That will save her from disgrace, and since he will now ascend to the throne, she would still become a duchess. She agrees and they work together to pull off the coup de grâce on their wedding day.

This does feel a little bit like a Regency Romance with a bit of Alchemy thrown in for value. It’s a good book, absolutely hilarious in places as these two, who have known each other since they were children but never dreamed they’d be married, traverse the landscape together.

Benedict is a dick, and he’s stuck his dick in anything he could get his hands on since he was a teenager. Selena on the other kind of has a proper stick up her ass. She’s never branched out sexually and has no idea what awaits her with Benedict. What could possibly go wrong, lol.

Okay. I did finish this book and there were parts I adored. There was some great banter, some very funny prose and a decent love story. This was not my favorite by a long shot. The Alchemy Series was much better imo. I hate to beat a dead horse, but again… this felt too regency romance. 3.75 🌟🌟🌟🌟 ...more "

PROLOGUE

Ronan and Daisy’s story. This one is a very wide age gap. Too much in my opinion. 30+ years is beyond age gap… and the “daddy” kink isn’t my thing apparently because I found it a bit distasteful. The story was okay and kept my interest for the most part. Okay, read the second time 9-8-26…. The writing is fluid. There is no doubt Sara knows her way around a pen, but the constant use of the word “daddy” just gives me the ick factor. I still think 53 and 25 is too much of an age gap. Daisy read as a young girl… almost a child while “daddy” Ronan controlled and cared for her. Bah.
