"It's fun to delve into the origins of one of my favorite authors. To try and see where the rest of the books in Brandon Sanderson's universe trace their heritage back to this original novel. And even for his first entry, it is a remarkably complete and pleasing one. Even now, I would heartily recommend this novel, as well as any others by the author to just about anyone." — Apr 28, 2014 12:07PM

"This book is a novel fundamentally about color, and Sanderson does a wonderful job expressing that fascination. Hitting the literary world again with a unique world, a unique system of magic, and, somehow, at the same time managing a host of intriguing and likeable characters. It gives me shivers, sometimes." — Apr 28, 2014 11:49AM

"I didn't think I would be able to fall more in love with this series. I was wrong. I think what I enjoy most about this book, and the Way of Kings before it, is the imagery inherent in Sanderson's writing. The grand tale truly plays itself out in the mind's eye, without even having to think about it. The characters are likeable, the story is intriguing, and the world is beautiful." — Mar 24, 2014 03:17AM
