It had some things that I would change but it was pretty decent.
The setting of this book is in Philadelphia. this book is about this kid who wanted to stay with his mom but she couldn't take his misbehavior anymore, so she took him to where his (supposed to be) dad is at. then he learned about what life was like in Philadelphia. This book is person vs. self because he needs to work on himself before he can do anything else. Cole is a kid who does wrong but wants to fix it when bad is about to happen. His father is basically a ghetto cowboy, he loves horses like they where his own children.
I was surprised when Coles mom actually drove all the way to Philadelphia. I was move by when a horse got hit by a car and got shot. I didn't agree with his mom just leaving him with 200 dollars and his clothes on the sidewalk. my favorite part of this book was when Cole found out the people that were laughing at him were his cousins. I understood why Coles mom could not take it no more and thought that he might need a man in his life to get him straight.
I believe that all of these things that happened to Cole, happened to better him. this books connection is text to world. there are lots of kids out in the world doing bad things, so it goes to show if you do wrong you get wrong done to you. this book is similar to the "yummy" book I read because both of the children did wrong and got wrong done to them. This is kind of like me because I have made stupid choices and those stupid choices have reflected back on to me.
I thought that this was a good book overall. I would scale this book a 8 because it was good but could have had been better. I would recommend this book to a bad child who needs structure. If you know that it is wrong don't do it. your stupid choices will lead you into a bad direction ...more "

I think this is a very great book and really sad and funny at the same time.
The setting of this story is in minnesota during the winter time. kek is a kid from africa that only speaks a few english words and live with his aunt because they havent found his mother yet. While he is staying with his aunt he goes to school and gets a job as taking care of a farm(which he doesnt know how to do). He has a friend friend named Hannah that helps him anytime he needs it. There are a lot of things that he really doesn't know but he still does it,like putting dishes in a clothes washer or throwing an apple at an student and think he is getting rewarded when he is really getting a detention. At the end he finally finds his mother. The conflict of this story is person vs world because he needs to find his mother and doesn't know were she is at. Kek is ten years old, I think he is a very fast learner when he actually listens.
I was surprised at the end when kek actually found his mom. I wish that they would make more books like this one. I understood why kek thought that all of his food at look was so delicious and how thankful he was. I predicted that kek would not find his mom and he would have to stay with his aunt would happen, but it turned out that he did find his mom. The authors purpose was to explain to people the struggle that people go through and would go through if they are unfamiliar with a place that they aren't from. The reason I think this is because you wouldn't here these types of thing from someone that was from america that lives in america.
This story connection is text to world. This book is like a book that we are reading in class because bother of them have to do with being part of a different part of the world. This book is kinda of related to my life because I live around a lot of Mexicans and sometimes they speak Spanish and I really don't know what they are saying.
I think this was I great book, I also think that they should make more books like these because I think this is what would interest my age group. I would rate this book a 10 because it is a nice book and these are the type of books I like. I would recommend this book to a person that like to learn about what other people from other places go through. Never forget that there is always someone out in the world that is going through something. ...more "
