I could hear the warmth and amusement in his tone clear as day. It was quite obvious that Marshal Jones had it bad for Marshal Doyle.
“The back screen popped open before she could answer, and everyone who was still armed raised their weapons again, waiting breathlessly for the heavy footsteps to draw near. Chester came around the corner, a rag in his hands, wiping them clean. His shovel was held in the crook of his elbow, the shaft resting on his shoulder. Blood dripped from the sharpened tip of the blade. “Got me a couple,” he said with a pleased grin.”

“Well they were going to have to do a whole lot better than this if they wanted us Creeds to feel bad. If they thought they could hurt me or dad just by messing with my head at a tryout and cutting me from the team they had another thing coming. “It’s open!” Zane called, expecting Sidewinder and an amused FBI agent or three.
But it was just Kelly, and he had a hand slapped over his eyes. He took a tentative step into the cabin, then tossed a handful of medical supplies on the bed and retreated without ever saying a word. Ty and Zane stared at the supplies as the door shut. They included a flexible wrap, some popsicle sticks, one length of metal that could be bent and molded, and a little tube of lubricant.
“Asshole!” Ty called after Kelly.
“You’re welcome!”

“Yeah, but I’d rather my obituary didn’t lead with ‘He broke into a jail museum and then died,’” Digger grumbled as he trailed after.
“At least it would read ‘with his friends,’” Doc added.
“If I wanted to die with you jokers, I would have done it in Afghanistan!”
Nick and Owen both stopped and wheeled on Doc and Digger. “Will you at least pretend that you care we’re doing something illegal here?” Nick hissed.
Doc and Digger muttered apologies, and they carried on.”
