"My goodness this is really bad. Gene Wolfe has an extensive vocabulary, but is a terrible story teller and terrible misogynist. It's almost unreadable. There is almost no plot or political commentary. It's just a collection of non-sequitor scenes and empty characters in an internally inconsistent and incoherent world. How this collection was rated the second best fantasy series since Lord of the Rings baffles me." Dec 31, 2025 11:26PM

“Music, states of happiness, mythology, faces belaboured by time, certain twilights and certain places try to tell us something, or have said something we should have missed, or are about to say something; this imminence of a revelation which does not occur is, perhaps, the aesthetic phenomenon.”
Jorge Luis Borges, Labyrinths: Selected Stories & Other Writings

Gabriel García Márquez
“Cease, cows, life is short.”
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude

Alfred Döblin
“He swore to all the world and to himself that he would remain decent. And as long as he had money, he remained decent. But then he ran out of money, which was a moment he had been waiting for, to show them all what he was made of.”
Alfred Döblin, Berlin Alexanderplatz

Karl Marx
“We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror.”
Karl Marx
