"A lot of people loved this book and said it was like the Hunger Games, but more brutal. I'm not seeing it. The Hunger Games books were far more action packed and interesting with the unique traps and characters having to figure out these deathly obstacles. Either the last half of the book gains momentum and something exciting happens or this one just isn't for me." — Jun 13, 2022 12:10AM

“Keith was just bringing the glass to his lips when Adrian said, "Mmm. O positive, my favorite."
Keith sprayed out the wine he'd just drunk and promptly started coughing. I was relieved that none got on me. jill burst into giggles, and Clarence stared at his glass wonderingly.
"Is it? I thought it was a cabernet sauvignon."
"So it is," said Adrian, straight-faced. "My mistake.”

“A piece of heaven?" I managed to ask.
He slowly shook his head. "No. The other place. The one I'm going to burn in for thinking what I'm thinking.”

“He gave a hard smile and the oxygen in my lungs evaporated. “We
both know I’m not a gentleman.”
“Yeah. Okay, let me out. I’m tired.”
“There’s something else,” he said, and I groaned.
“What now?”
“This.” He stepped closer to me, so close that the containers were
sandwiched between us. His eyes
looked down into mine, intent and golden, like a lion.
“Oh, no, you don’t!” I hissed, dropping everything. I pushed hard
against his chest; it was like shoving
a tree.
“Yes,” he said very softly, leaning down. “Yes, I do.”
