"This will likely go into a DNF list. The writing is juvenile, I am questioning whether this was originally meant to be a YA book. It’s inconsistent and tries too hard. The story is also boring me more than entertaining me." Mar 08, 2026 08:12AM

Ava Reid
“Don’t you see? You can take my heart and liver; split open my belly and eat what’s inside. I would sooner bear it than lose you to those who would call you plain-faced, who makes you kneel and kiss their feet. Do not leave me alone. Do not leave me to lick my wounds like a dog before it’s put down. Do not look at the truth of me and then look away. Please, Marlinchen.”
Ava Reid, Juniper & Thorn

“You keep asking why your work is not enough, and I don’t know how to answer that, because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don’t need to justify that, or earn it. You are allowed to just live.”
Becky Chambers, A Psalm for the Wild-Built

Emily R. Austin
“I came to the realization that every moment exists in perpetuity regardless of whether it’s remembered. What has happened has happened; it occupies that moment in time forever. I was an eleven-year-old girl lying in the grass one summer. I knew in that moment that was true and recognized that I would blaze through moments for the rest of my life, forgetting things, and becoming ages older, until I forgot everything—so I consoled myself by committing to remember that one moment.”
Emily R. Austin, Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead

Ottessa Moshfegh
“What about heaven, Ina? Don’t you want to go?’ ‘It doesn’t matter,’ she said. ‘I won’t know anyone.”
Ottessa Moshfegh, Lapvona

Freya Marske
“I am nothing like you, and yet I feel more myself with you.”
Freya Marske, A Marvellous Light
