Book cover for The Best Minds: A Story of Friendship, Madness, and the Tragedy of Good Intentions
It turned out that going to the moon was easier than curing, preventing, or even providing adequate treatment for illnesses that doctors, not so long before, had referred to as lunacy,

I'm having a rough time with this one- I worked in the mental health field for years and it is deeply upsetting to revisit it and, once again, realize that nothing really has changed. The writing is wonderful but man, is it triggering. I may have to put it down and mark it as DNF.

William Shakespeare
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.”
William Shakespeare, The Tempest

Carl Sagan
“It pays to keep an open mind, but not so open your brains fall out.”
Carl Sagan

Groucho Marx
“Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.”
Groucho Marx, The Essential Groucho: Writings For By And About Groucho Marx

Ray Bradbury
“Science fiction is the most important literature in the history of the world, because it's the history of ideas, the history of our civilization birthing itself. ...Science fiction is central to everything we've ever done, and people who make fun of science fiction writers don't know what they're talking about.”
Ray Bradbury

Tony Kushner
“I've lived through such terrible times and there are people who live through much worse. But you see them living anyway. When they're more spirit than body, more sores than skin, when they're burned and in agony, when flies lay eggs in the corners of the eyes of their children - they live. Death usually has to take life away. I don't know if that's just the animal. I don't know if it's not braver to die, but I recognize the habit; the addiction to being alive. So we live past hope. If I can find hope anywhere, that's it, that's the best I can do. It's so much not enough. It's so inadequate. But still bless me anyway. I want more life.”
Tony Kushner, Angels in America
